Decoding a 727 ser. no.
« on: August 19, 2006 - 04:01:44 PM »
I have a 727 s.b. trans. and wondering what yr. it is .I think it was in a van.Long tail shaft. The input shaft is different for another one I have.It has an 1 inch or so shaft on the inner shaft that is not splined. I thought lockup's were like that . Was there any 727 lockup's? No. are FA4U58374-6556-6600 .Thanks

I have a feeling that the "U" in the first sequence is an "0". Perhaps the top of the zero is hard to see.

I have a number in my trans guide:

4058374

 = Dodge Tr 1980 - 318-8 & 360-8 D100 & D200 long extension. Lock up converter.
 = Ramcharger 1980 - 318-8 & 360-8 4x2. Lock up converter.
 = Trail Duster 1980 - 318-8 & 360-8 4x2. Lock up converter.

It was originally from one of the above models and had a lock up converter.

Thanks alot NZ          , I thought it might be a lock up .Next question can you readily  buy lockup converters for 727's ?non performance only i suppose .non lock probably won't work either        ::)      ?

If you're after performance 8 out of 10 guys will tell you to go with a non-lock up converter. We recently had a big topic on an A518 and they were only avaiable in lock up style if they were brand new, so I passed on it altogether.

I'm pretty sure all your major Mopar stockists sell them, try www.jegs.com they'll have 'em.

Stock lock up 727 converters can be purchased anywhere. I don't recommend them for performance unless it is not much more H.P. than stock :burnout:
