My 833 transmission in a 1970 Dodge Challenger 383 car is stuck between 3rd & 4th gear and I have a few questions I hope you can help me with, with some guidance I’m sure I can get this resolved. What position should the levers on the side of gear box be in when shifter is in neutral with linkage attached? The shifter does not feel like it is in neutral it does when you move it to left but not right. I’m not sure if I have a transmission problem or a shifter problem or a little of both.
I got a rebuild kit for Z bar, but when I installed it using the only taped hole in the bell housing that the new stud bolt would go in, the Z bar is on a severe slope. The other two holes appear to be about ½ in. I’m guessing the hole I used is 9/16ths, all parts fit Z bar but don’t seem right on bell housing position. Are there #’s for identifying bell housing, if so where are they? What is the correct flywheel, how many teeth?
If I remove linkage from side of box what position will shifter arms be in for neutral on transmission? How can I tell if I have the right transmission, what are the #’s for a 1970 and where are they located?
Thanks in advance, forever MOPAR,
Jerry
