Headlight Buckets

When I reassembled the header on my 73, after getting all of the buckets in, the inner passenger side headlight was
c o c k e y e d about 30 degrees or so. I took the bucket back out, tried to find a different way to align it (failed) tried to see if I'd switched buckets somewhere (apparently not). I don't think I've ever had more than the original set of buckets. Can anybody give me an idea for soemthing I might have missed?

My guess is it came that way; a testament to Chrysler's quality control at that time.  They all bolt in the same way.  You'll just have to get the correct one.  Post a pic if you can to help explain what is going on.

Thanks Ch6pak. I know it didn't come that way; I've had the car for close to 30 years. The header is a replacement, though, and it may have been drilled improperly.

I'll get a pic in the near future and post it. I've promised myself that tomorrow is going to be spent on the axle project so I can get back on the road before the end of the summer.

the buckets Have to be in specific locations , each of the 4 are different , you must have 2 crossed up

CP - That was my first thought, but if I have two mixed up, wouldn't I have two headlights that weren't level instead of one?

Yes, you would.  You have three of one and 1 of the other.

theoretically yes but if you took the same 4 out that you put back in 2 MUST be wrong

OK, here's what I've got. I've confirmed as best I can (i.e., talking to the guys who helped with the bodywork) that I've never had more that one set of buckets. They definitely weren't this way when I bought the car. I accept that I've screwed soemthing up, but what?

I have a 70, but I'm sure it's the same way(maybe). Before you tighten that ring on the outside of the bulb, you should be able to turn the light so that it sits straight up. Thanks for adding those pics, by the way. That helps a bunch now.

I can turn the headlights, but this one didn't seat in the bucket. There are little nubs that protrude from the back of the headlights, and little detents in the buckets that they seat in. They other three lined up just right, this one I fussed with for about half an hour before I said "screw it, it'll be crooked for a while." Now I'm in a state that has inspections again, though

Long shot.  Check your headlights.  Maybe one of them has the electrical prongs mounted in it on an angle and there is nothing wrong with the Challenger.

ChallengerHK , It appears to me that your outside drivers side bulb tilts a little in the opposite direction to the problem child, could these need swaping?
