3 speed wiper need a release cam???
« on: July 19, 2006 - 07:37:55 PM »
My 73 chally has a 3 speed wiper and no cam release package.  Will it park on it's own?  The motor was bad so I just installed a reman.   Another chally I had needed the cam release.  Is it needed for 2 speed but not 3 speed?
thanks

The 2 speed had the cam on the arm assembly. The VARIABLE SPEED had the cam built into the motor behind the flat plate. Have you powered it up yet?

not yet- still working in the dash. I suspect being a 3/variable speed it will work OK without cam pkg on the arm.

You guys seem to really know about the different wiper motor assemblies. I have a 2 speed motor and now know the switch is a variable speed switch. The wipers have never parked correctly or worked well in any way. Is the 2 speed motor supposed to be with a variable speed switch? What motor is supposed to be with a variable speed switch. I would like to keep the 2 speed motor in the car so I guess I need to find a 2 speed switch. Are they still available in the parts stores or do I need to find one in a salvage yard? Also, I saw the post about the cam being on the arm assembly. Do you guys have a pic references so I can compare to what I currently have?

You shouldn't have that plugged in.  Mine smoked with the wrong switch on it.

The 2 speed motor stood straight up from the wiper assembly and the variable speed motor laid down. What is your car harness wired for? I think some of the wires are pinned differently so you just can't change the motor, switch and cam and have wipers.  You might have to look at wire colors behind the switch.

Original harness was not exavtly a harness when I got the car. I basically had to re-wire the car from manualls that I managed to scrounge up from the local libraries. I did this years ago before the restore craze of lately. Late 80's.  So now I'm getting back into the car and starting to find alot of lose ends I never really attended to. I found a diagram of wiring up a 2 speed motor. I'm sure the motor is a 2 speed. Pretty sure the linkage is correct. I had purchased it on ebay a few years back when I confirmed with the seller that it was the correct linkage for the motor. Surer fit alot better than the stuff that was in there. Now I need to find a switch and I should be good.
