Radiator Shroud Fitment Problems
« on: August 07, 2006 - 10:10:31 PM »

I purchased a radiator shroud from a seller on eBay. All went well, well packed, fast shipping......

Problem, when I we went to install it it didn't fit. It was roughly 3/4" off each side.
I measured my radiator before purchasing it and at center to center of the screw holes it was 26".

I asked her why it didn't fit, she asked for the numbers on the radiator so I gave them to her.
She got back and said the numbers I gave her were for a small block radiator, I ordered big block.

I replied and told her that her advert didn't mention big or small block shrouds.
After viewing Year Ones site I see that you don't mention this either?

Do 26" fan shrouds come in small or big block mounting specs/sizes? Or is it one size fits all?
Now I'm stuck as I don't know what to order as I'll probably end up with the same fan shroud, one that doesn't fit.

My radiators numbers are:

2138460481

000 904 - This one looks like an ID plate.

3574627 and below that it says: 9538

Only reference I can find is an old eBay that claims 3574627 came from a 72 challey but did not specify motor only 2 row w/AC. If your tanks were from a small block the inlets would be on the wrong side at least at the bottom. I have a small block & happen to have an OE big block '71 shroud & while I have yet to install it I have held it up & all seems to line up. Will double check for you tomorrow.

The '70-71 parts catalog (Jan 1972 edition) lists shroud part number 2998326 for '70 and '71 B and J (Barracuda and Challenger) 340 with 26" core, with or without A/C.

The same part number is listed for '70 and '71  B, J, R(Belvedere/Satellite), and W(Coronet/Charger) 318, 383, 426, and 440 with 26" core and A/C (yes, 426 was listed here)

There's no listing for a non-A/C 26" variant for those models though so maybe there's a typo, or did any of these cars come sans shroud?

So there was overlap on the shrouds for 26" core radiators between LA and B/RB engines, at least with air in 1970 and 1971.

Thanks guys, I forgot too mention that my car originally had A/C. But, going from the advert and some of these parts numbers it didn't matter on most case if it was with or without Air con.

At the end of the day, what radiator do I need? Anyone know..... :dunno:

Cheers.

Maybe mine needs a 22" shroud? I'll re-measure but I'm 97% positive it was 26".
I measured from center screw to center screw......

As for the eBay link....hell no!!! LMAO  :eek7:

shroud I believe came off a 71 b-body big block. googled the part #3673820 & only got a hit on A-body.   overall width 26 1/2", width at mounting tabs 27", at center of mounting holes 25 3/4",
height of sides 18 3/8", top mtg hole 2 7/8", bottom hole 15 1/8",  dia. of opening 20 1/2", offset on long side/drivers 4 1/2".

Update - We've decided to use the one they sent and make brackets to suit. Easy job, but we weren't sure if we could save time and money by getting one that fits correctly, from what I've heard it's one size fits all for the 26".

At least it's problem solved.
