360 Questions?
« on: August 07, 2006 - 08:15:47 AM »
Going into a '70 Challenger, a '71 360. What would be needed to fit this apart from the different engine mount? Does the extractors bolt up ( 318 fitted at the present )? Would a '91 Magnum 360 be a better option and does it have different exhaust mounting points? I will be fitting a carby to what ever I fit. I am looking for advise on what core ( motor ) to start with? I am looking at what will give me max grunt for the bucks. Motor mod's will be mild cam, valves and head work to give good grunt & drivability ( 4 spd ) as I intend to use this vehicle for daily use as it was intended and I intend to enjoy it. :burnout:

the LA & magnum 360 both use the same exhaust mounts but the heads are better , the 91 will not be a magnum though , 92 up are magnums , either way after 87 the blocks used roller cams which can produce better power & milage than flat tappet blocks , the balancing is different on the  magnum engines as well

Thanks for the info. What is different with the balancing? Is this only on the magnum engines, internal or external. I will be converting this vehicle to a 4spd from a 904. I had heard that the ports were much bigger on the later heads and I figured that the 318 ports being small, then the extractors from the 318 wouldn't fit and I would have to purchase a new or different set.

All 360's are external balance. LA 360 is 120 grams weight to balance, 5.9 magnum 360  is 91 grams weight to balance.
