Starter Issues
« on: August 08, 2006 - 09:57:52 PM »
Yesterday the Coronet started fine, today i turn the key and get what sounds like a high pitched...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...with no "catch". I can "bump" the ignition with the key and it fires up.
I'd like for it not to be the starter itself but i think it is. Any opinions?
Here's some shots of the starter and it's location. Except for replacing the rusted mufflers with full duals out the back, that's how it was modified back in 9/78 and i can think of more enjoyable tasks than persuading that starter to come out. Crud.   :faint: :working:

generally it is thedrive on the starter , the starter turns over but doesn`t push the drive out into the flywheel
so yes I agree it is a starter problem , looks like fun to me !! :banghead:

Russ, if you don't have anyone local, there is a place here that still repairs/rebuilds starters & alternators. Russel Brothers
But you might try cleaning/burnishing all the contacts + grease the drive thinggy & see if problem disapears.

Buzzing?

It sounds like a dead battery.
