'70-'71 Grille Opening Extended Chrome
« on: September 10, 2006 - 09:40:26 AM »
Hi All,  I'm trying to find out more about the extended chrome in the 70-71 grille openings.  I've seen it on a few cars (in photos) and am wondering how it attaches, if it's readily available, etc., but I haven't heard much about it.  My real question beyond that is whether it will work on a '73.

Thanks!
Mike

Are you referring to the trim piece on the lower valence panel? If so, I see them on E-Bay occasionally. They are HEAPS cheaper for the 72-74 Challenger, than they are for 70-71. I don't want to tell you what I paid for mine.  :22yikes:  :22yikes:  :22yikes:

the wide trim mounts through the hood with 6-7 holes , never seen it on a 72-74

That wide trim was a rare option for 71 Challengers. I'm not sure you could make it work on other year cars.  :clueless:

Here's a 71 Challenger from this past weekend's Hayes show with the trim.

Am I correct in saying that the '70 and '71s had separate moldings (chrome) and that the '72-'74 had separate hood moldings but the fender moldings were integral to the fenders?

That's pretty cool.  I wish I could get it to work on my '73, but I've resigned myself to a painted grille opening.
