FYI: auto darkening helmet, and trunk floor pan squishing
« on: August 28, 2006 - 04:48:33 PM »

This weekend I finished the first-pass at plug-welding in my new trunk floor.  I was waiting for my new autodarkening helmet to arrive for a couple of weeks, but it was worth the wait.  After a little getting used to it, it's great.  Highly recommmended; got mine off eBay.

The most challenging part was getting the new sheet metal to clamp tightly to the frame rails.  Some long-reach vise-grips worked well, but they couldn't reach the front third of the frame rails (I had to replace the entire pan).  My solution is pictured below; any other ways to do it with the inner wheel wells in place?

These work great for holding panels in place;

I thought about using those ... I have a set of Clecos and pliers waiting for the quarter panel replacement project.  I didn't want to drill holes in the frame rails, so went with the 'custom' solution.    :bigsmile:

I did it the same way you did. Worked fine for me! :2thumbs:
