FS: Air Rover portable AC unit in DFW
« on: August 19, 2006 - 05:39:31 AM »
I bought this thinking it would cool most of my 2 car garage but was wrong. Am going to have to go hole-in-the-wall AC so this has to go.

This is a 110V unit and is rated at 11,800 BTU/Hr. I had it serviced and it is cooling VERY well. Its temps and pressures are textbook. It uses a conventional room thermostat that controls temps. Also has a 5gal condensation jug to capture condensation so you dont have water on your floor. Has level indicator on the console to tell you when tank is full. This is a very well engineered AC unit

This air conditioner would be ideal for a single car garage (up to 400sqft) or similar space. It also would be excellent for spot cooling an area like the inside of a car, an enclosed construction workspace, a corner of a large shop, etc. Unit includes two 10" diameter spiral wound telescopic hoses for intake and exhaust. It uses two directional ducts for outlet air. Also includes box of replacement air filters and wall mount baffles for the exhaust hose to connect to.

Air Rover builds portable units as small as this one but as large as those that are pulled by semi trucks. Air Rover is in Tyler Texas and sells mostly to large business and government.

Asking $400obo NEED TO SELL

am in S. Grand Prairie, Texas. The unit rolls and could probably drop at a freight forwarder if you wanted to minimize transport costs

Very nice price for that type of unit; if you'd been closer I'd have tried to buy it.  Around here the no-name standalone units with a dryer-vent size hose for heat exchange and a single front louver go for $330-$400 for much lower BTU ratings (9000 tops), so also inadequate for a not very well insulated townhouse 2-car garage.  No window or wall units allowed (and I can't add insulation either), and its not so much fun to work there in the summer swelter.

Yes, I need a unit with enough tonnage that would overcome inefficiencies in the space like air leaks around the door, no insulation, etc. Also, wanted something that would cool it pretty quick. I found a great deal on the local Craigslist for a 22k BTu/hr window unit. I was going to do a hole in the wall but now am thinking on putting in a double hung window. I think that would be less obtrusive than a hole in the wall. Also, might enable me to take the AC with me if I want to cool my next garage space.

That portable AC unit sure would have worked out better if I had a smaller garage!
