ETATX,
our condolences as well.  We share your loss, having loved and lost quite a few four-legged family members through the years.  Our beautiful bouncing Bonnie rocket dog is now learning to use a wheelchair; without it she can barely get up or walk around, but she hasn't given up on life yet and remains amazingly bright and happy.  When her time comes I hope we do right by her, and at the right time.

Duodec. I am sure you will take good care of her and I wish you guys all the best... you pup sounds like she has got some fight in her, that is for sure. For my dog, Chaucer, it came on quick for some reason... Seems like it all happened within a month or so. He was hard of hearing and his eyesight wasnt very good - but he still got around pretty good...then one day I came home and he was a little slower getting up .... and the next day a little slower... and finally he couldn't even walk without falling over or stumbling.. He lost is bladder and bowel control too in the end. I waited as long as I could but I knew it was the right thing. He is better off now.  :angelwings:

Sorry for your loss Evil, It's always tough to make the correct decisions.  My cat growing up lived to @22yrs(siamese) and in the end had to be put down.  He got hit 5-6 times by cars and kept coming back for more!  He was a good cat and will always be with us, as Chaucer will be w/you.

Had to make a decision on my German Shepard who's hips were shot. Hardest thing I ever did. Sorry for your loss, it is devastating

Hey EvilTwin - just wanted to add my condolences as well (sorry I'm late - been pretty crazy at work and at home).

My wife and I just went through this with my cat Pearl. She was my best friend and used to sleep by my head every night, and sit on my lap when I was at the computer or watching TV. Very bright personality, and very cuddly. 1 week before our daughter was born we took her to the vet because she had been losing weight. After the blood test it was determined that her kidneys were failing. 2 weeks after Abby was born (so a little over a month now) we made the decision that her quality of life had deteriorated far enough, and put her to sleep. She was 8 years old. I can definitely understand about how tough a decision it is.

The best advice I can give is to remember the good times that you had with Chaucer, and that he lived in a home filled with love and happiness. As long as he's in your heart he'll never be gone.
