Sounds like a good possibility.  You are causing a vaccum leak when it is hooked up due to it's leak.

you are connecting it to manifold vacuum & advancing the timing at idle wrong way  you need to hav eit connected to ported vacuum if you use it at all , I never hook it up on my cars

Assuming you did connect it correctly, you should only see the car running badly, or missing while it's at cruising speed. At idle and under full throttle, the vacuum advance should not be a factor. Is that the case here? My car would "miss" at cruising speed, as my vacuum advance was advancing the timing too much. You can use an Allen wrench to adjust the pod so it doesn't advance so much... but I ended up doing what Chryco suggested. If you go that route too, be sure to plug that port on your carb so you aren't sucking in unmetered air.

I did connect it to the right place and plug off the carb hole, ran crappy at idle.I am pretty good at tuning a car, just a little rusty. So now your telling me i suck unmetered air?what kind of an insult is that?I would expect that from ShelbyDawg and not you, lol.I'm just kidding around,I am just feeling a bit ornery and stoked to have a 4 day weekend

OK,

  You had me scared. I thought I insulted you.  :o  :o  :o

If your car runs crappy at idle, it can't be that your vacuum advance, advancing the timing too far. Yes, a leaky pod would, so maybe that is the problem here?  :dunno:

Thanks Moparnut,

Put a hose on the pod and suck it while watching your timing with a timing light. It should advance. If it leaks you'll feel the hole let air in after you suck it then block it with your tongue.

I always use manifold vacuum. It will allow your engine to idle smoothly and give you better throttle response and gas mileage.

Get that timing light out.
