Dragula, thanks for posting that info. Makes a ton of sense. I'm going to try and get my hands on a affordable 650d/p to try on my 318. I dont have the money for a fancy quickfuel/proform setup. But i'm not opposed to swapping carbs from the eddie to the holley when i get to the track and running it that way since i daily drive the thing.  :2thumbs: I do now have a high stall converter, low gears and such, it should take well to the double pumper. (3,500footbrake, 3,900rpm flash dynamic converter. 3.91s)

And the distributer is?

The engine will handle and want more fuel with the quick advance distributer. That's how you get the snap to it. The convertor lets it climb higher and quicker without a load on it, but the distributer is what REALLY makes it happen.

Its a MP electronic distributor. It was given to me along with my heads and such, advance seems to come in pretty quickly, id say around 2800rpm. 35* total. I'll email the guy that gave it to me and see if it's been tweaked or not. Given that, i havent been able to get 'too much' fuel with the eddie it seems. no vac advance hooked up.

We ran a ThermoQuad on our 70 340 in our Challenger, never had a problem with it, would use one again.

well the eddy 600 performer runs much better than the 750 holley it replaced. idle is good and when it opens up the accel is great. well as good as it need it to be street driving in NYC with drum brakes! my holley was running rich and was difficult to tune correctly, it just sucked right outta the box. fuel economy is also much much better. i hate to say that fuel econmy matters with this car but it really sucks to take ONE short ride and pay a $50 fuel bill.

the only negative is the lack of instant snap when it opens up. there is a very slight hesitation, then the car is suprizingly quick.

will the quick advance distributer help me at all with this setup?

It will probably make the hesitation worse. Thats a lean stumble, and bringing the timing in quicker is gonna make it want want more fuel, and its going to want it sooner instead of later. Where it starts to pick up again is where the jets start taking over.

The holley's, if you have a newer one have the tunable air bleeds in them. They are little threaded inserts near the boosters. If you have the tunable ones, they will have a slot for a screw driver so they can be removed and changed. This will greatly clean up the idle if you have them, bigger is leaner. With a four corner idle circuit, you want around a 67 in all four, and two corner idle circuit about a 31-32 in the front two. The fuel shot when you hit the gas is from the squirters. Reducing the size of those will help as well if you feel its too much. You can make a holley as eneimic as an eddy carb if you want to.  If your holley doesn't have the tunable air bleeds, jegs and Summit both carry the newer center bodies that can be swapped for about $100 total. Its still cheaper than a new carb. For me, it makes a ton of difference when up grading cams, converters, etc. The carb can be tuned as I go, and I don't need a new one every time I upgrade.

I had a 600cfm Holley (0-80457) on a 383, 0.30 over, that I had trouble with when breaking down to stop as it would die. And then I changed to a 750Cfm (1407) Edelbrock. Got lot's more power and worked just perfect in all speeds.
