Big,

Was the gas smell when you parked the car raw unburned gas or burned gas?  The unburned fuel smell is pretty much normal with the Holley.  It is vented straight to the atmoshere and the fuel in the bowls will evaporate if not cranked every so often.  Also, if it is running real rich while idling, make sure you don't have more than 7-8 PSI fuel pressure.  If you have more than that, the needle valves can't hold the fuel back and it will flood into the engine.  I would check the fuel pressure first if you haven't already done so.....  I just had to buy and adjust a new Barry Grant regulator on the Beast last week.  Couldn't get the old one to adjust lower than 12 PSI.  Car ran, but VERY rich.  Seems fine now.....   Just my humble 0.02.....     :cooldancing:

OS thanks for the imput , I haven't gone that far yet. I will say the exhaust inside the garage will knock you out! But you can smell some at idle outside too. Chyco asked about plugs so I pulled two of them just to look .
1st 2 pics are lt bank closest to the master cyl. 2nd 2 pics are rt bank closest to the alt....

that looks slightly dark but not out of the correct area , so if ti is rich at idle it is the cam not the carb , if the cam is lopey the lopeyness is cause by cylinders misfiring so the fuel goes unburnt into the exhaust system & will seem rich at idle which seems to be the case here

Chyco I think the flash from the camera made them look lighter than what they are. The fumes in the garage at idle can be a real eye burner! I really have no idea what cam it has. If it is the cam am I better off leaving it alone??? I wouldn't call the idle  excessively lopey.... just typical hemi. Hot idle in drive is 1000/1100.. THANKS for your imput!!
