Electronic ignition box/rev limiter options?
« on: September 19, 2006 - 05:43:56 PM »
I need to upgrade the orange ignition control box on my `72 and need some ideas.I need a unit good to 6500-7000rpm and since I have a four speed would like a rev limiter so I can feel more confident power shifting at the track.Mopar chrome box,MSD 6AL or what?

the MSD 6 & 7 use chips , expensive
the Mallory & Crane & Msd digital use dials on the ing box to limit the rpm so you do not have to buy anyhting just turn the dial to set it
the other option is the Mopar Chrome ECU a & stand alone rev limiter

MSD Digital 6 - $310 7 - $564
6AL - 229 - RPM Chips $27 for 5

More than likely you can find a good used 6AL for 100-150bucks. I paid $50 for my used 6A and been daily driving it for a year now. Woulda bought a 6AL, but $50 was lookin good at the time.

Ok,maybe a dumb question-does an MSD replace the factory orange box or is it added to the system?

It replaces the entire thing(ignition)  The only thing you need is the Distributor.  There are adjustable chips available for the 6al.

Hope that helps.
