Headlights do not work
« on: May 04, 2007 - 09:27:46 AM »
I am almost finished by car and I just tried to use my headlights and they do not work.
2 months ago I tested them and they worked with no issues, before I put the motor/trans in.
Now the rear lights/side lights and the fog lights work when I switch the headlights on.

I think there should be a loose wire some where, but where should I start looking.

Thanks Rich

Do you have a good battery to body ground? Messing with the engine, the battery may have been taken out, just checkin.

Are all the wire blocks on the firewall plugged in? Might have bumped a set of connectors putting the engine in and now have lost connection to the front light harness.

Thanks for the web site
Yes the battery is grounded to the body, I removed this ground and all of the lights went out then i put the ground back on and the headlights still do not work.

Thanks

The only things I can think of, are the connector at the bulkhead for the harness is dirty. The other thing is possibly a bad headlight switch. I'm not familiar with Cuda's, so I don't know if the front road lamps are turned on when the switch is in the middle position, or all the way up. If it's the latter, then I might be on to something.

Start at the lights themselves and follow the wires back. Maybe you mashed them with the engine and cut the harness.

:iagree: My brother had similar problem with his 72 Challenger...all lights would
work except headlights and it was a bad floor dimmer switch.

I have afeeling that it is the floor dimmer switch / high beam.
I have problems with this switch before
As soon as I get out of work I will check.

Thanks for the tip y'all. I haven't driven at night yet and because of this thread thought I'd check the headlights. Sure enough they didn't come on when I flicked the switch. After a few taps on the high beam switch they came on, must have done something while installing the new carpet.
