bad-ass 318
« on: September 16, 2006 - 12:55:48 AM »
i heard about a 300+ hp 318 at a swap meet, so went and googled it. check this out and tell me if it's worth it. also, would it make sense to go with higher compression pistons to raise the total compression ratio to about 9.0-1?

If you 'correct' my numbers to sealevel. I'm turning 342hp at the crank and 289 at the wheels with my 318. Just using corrected as a base to compare to...

From my experience, a lot of the 'magazine/article' built 318s dont do what they say they do in real life. Just from me comparing my setup to other cars and how fast they go. There is another 318 dart i know of, fully stripped, similar build...but yet i run the same time, twice as high of altitude and about 700lbs heavier. Not quite the numbers it puts out, but how you use them.

sounds more realistic here

375hp with a factory iron intake? i personally find that a little  :screwy:

I built a 318 a while back that no slouch at all.  I don't have specific numbers, but it ran 12.99 in my '68 Dart with a 4 speed.  It was bored .060 over using aftermarket pistons of unknown origin (they were free from a friend).  Close attention was paid to the boring operation for the best wall clearences possible.  A MP .509 cam was used (4 speed, manual brakes, no vacuum worries).  Ported x heads and an Edelbrock RPM intake with a 700 Holley.  I think I used Hooker headers into Flowmaster mufflers.  Bad leaf springs, lotsa wheel hop, but it got there!
