Are there two different speedos for standard dash E-bodies?
« on: September 15, 2006 - 07:49:06 AM »
I've seen pics of some 1970-71 Cudas on-line lately where the sstandard dash speedo numbers look different than the cars I've owned.  Were the later speedos, or Challenger speedos, different?  I also looked at a car recently where the dash bezel was ribbed.  I've never seen that before.  What is that from?

The ribs...i believe are 70only. However there are THREE different speedo fonts from what I've seen. I work at a local muscle car collection with many 70/71 cudas and there is no rhyme or reason why certain cars have certain fonts. like a early 70 and a late 71 have the same, but a late 70 has the same as my 72...makes no sense. But there are three different fonts  :eek4:

'70 Challenger standard dash was the ribbed dash, one year only.  The gauges also had a different face on them.  120, 150 and 240 speedo's were available.

240kmh  :icon16: I was going to buy a original kph speedo but it was pretty expensive, well over the $1,000 mark.
They were used for exported cars....I decided not to as I wanted to keep it original and it's rare down here (mph).

I wasn't sure of the Kilometer equivalent.  Is that for 120 or 150?

Not sure but I highly doubt they would have installed too many kph speedos.
Isn't or wasn't Canadia back then still in mph?

150mph = 241kph (the 0-60 sounds better too in kph lol 0-100)

So is there a 120 MPH to KPH equivalent speedometer?  That would make 4 speedometers.  Is the 240 a Rallye cluster speedometer or the standard speedometer?  Just curious about it.  Thanks.

The one I saw was for a rallye cluster assembly. I don't think they would make any for 120 speedos, the demand for those cars would be low and it would be a waste of time making them, wouldn't it? 120mph = 193kph
