Thumb wheel am radio
« on: August 17, 2006 - 03:35:29 PM »
This question is for AlaskanT/A or anybody else that knows. I had a am/8track in my 70 440-SIXPACK vert. It had the thumbwheels. I bought this am thumbwheel radio for my current challey to replace the knob am radio currently in it. Someone said the 70 radios had chrome on the pushbuttons. Here's a pic of the one I bought. Is it date coded correct for a 1970??? Thanks! Davehttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150021583638

Obviously the link won't take you to the item so here's a pic of the radio.

I am not sure what that one is out of, but here is a photo of the correct AM / 8 track for 1970 E-Bodies;

Here is some more information for identifying E-Body radios. This is a 1970 AM radio code R11, but all E-Body radios share at least three key features;

1. Note the protrusions outlined in red with the locating pins. The one on the left will be a long rectangle, the one on the right can be a shorter rectangle or square. All E-Body radios 1970-1974 have these.
2. Note that the attatching screws outlined in yellow secure the radio from the bottom.
3. The third E-Body feature is not shown, but only the E-body radios have the antenna lead plug into the bottom of the radio.

It may be for a '70, but it is not from an E-body. List the date code, I think FY1rtse knows how to read them, I have not checked into the date codes on radios yet.

T/Ake care,
Barry

That is MOST definitely not an E-Body radio. Sorry Dave.

I'll just stick it back on e-pay and sell it! It's not like I paid a fortune for it. :grinyes:

Dave,

  That looks like a good deal you got there. I have seen AM radios for E-Bodies go for more than twice that. At least you know this one works too. I guess you could put it in your car, but it would take a little work to get it to fit, I imagine.
