Vehical order number
« on: September 20, 2006 - 07:31:22 PM »
Can anyone tell me what the  'R' in the order number is for ? My Challenger has an r and Y-28 code also special handling car typed at the bottom.I've checked the Y-28 and I guess it is for company car /public relations, the special handling is for the car to be quality checked. If anyone can add any details I would really appreciate it.
Thanks
Dave

You pretty much answered your own question, the R VON prefix means it was a Y28 car (Y22 used the R as well) but it depends on the model year. Is the car from 1971 or newer?

Hi Barry
It is a 71 The green one in my sig picture. So the r is tied to the Y-28 code then.I tried to post a scan of the broadcast sheet but couldn't change the size for posting.
Thanks Dave

Just to add a little, the R prefix order numbers were used to order in-house Chrysler Corporation cars.  R car order forms had check boxes for what use the car was being orderd.  If the car was an employee lease car it would show as a Y22 on the broadcast sheet and "Corporate Leasing Car-Executive" on the window sticker.  If the car was an executive assigned car, public relations, pool, test, or courtesy car it would show as a Y28 on the broadcast sheet and "Company Car" on the window stiicker.
