Overhead Console Removal
« on: September 21, 2006 - 11:18:23 AM »
How does the overhead consol come out?  Does the headliner board come out.  This is on a 70 R/T SE Challenger by the way.  I have the front down, but it seems to be pinned or clipped in at the rear where the dome light is (which I already removed).

Thanks.

Yeah...I was waiting for Chris to answer.  I didn't do this part.  I'll ask him to answer this one.

I did a thread on that- with pics.  looking for that now.  Basically the console attaches to the headliner board with screws two in the front and the dome light bezel snaps into the console and is screwed into the roof frame with two screws.  The dome light assembley snaps in to the bezel as you have seen.  I dont really remember if you have remove the headliner to remove the console.  our site has a pic that shows the attachment areas  http://www.ridesthatrock.com/html/interior.html    look for another post here soon

I retro fitted my fabric headliner car with an overhead console and learned A LOT about these in the process.

As mentioned previous, there are the screws at the front for the lamp set bezel, the two screws in the domelight retainer, and then there are 4 or 6 wire retainers that hold the body of the o/h console in place. Once you have the screws out at the front and rear, the console should come down by carefully pulling pulling on it. Revs pics show the clip locations.
