Mirror mounting hardware
« on: September 25, 2006 - 08:15:04 AM »
I don't know if I am going to rechrome or buy repo side mirrors for my car yet. The problem is regardless of what I do I need the mounting screws and treaded inserts. Does anyone know where to buy them together. I bought from year one the inserts and the screws from another vendor and they don't fit together. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

RT Specialties offers a kit that comes with both the inserts and new screws to go in them. I picked mine up from them and they have a web site. www.RTSpecialties.net

Those inserts need a special tool to install them. Eastwood sells one, or you might check your local body shops to see if the have the tool.

I bought a set from A GUY ON EBAY THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE a special tool and they work great. Sorry I do not have name. The allen head srew when srewed down sets the nut to the door. I have used it twice, both time with success.RTs require special tool as previouly indicated.

You need a rivet nut kit.  It works like a std rivet gun except you are inserting a threaded nut instead of a rivet.  I got mine at a local cheapo automotive tool store for about $30. Perhaps someone like Harbor has them.  I think the screws were #10 but I'm not sure on that one.  They came in a Mr. G's exterior screw kit.

Same guy sells the screws or you can buy them from Tom at RT.

That looks like it's just the nuts, there is no installation tool in the picture, nor does the description say anything about an installation tool.

It comes with what you need other than wrenchs.
