70 model RT/SE, House of Colors Tangelo pearl or gomango??
« on: October 01, 2006 - 09:53:22 PM »
I dont know if any or many of you have seen this color.   It knocks me out.  I have to get a paint chip or something of the gomango color.  I dunno maybe the local paint store will work with me.   At nationals there was a Roadrunner this color and it slayed me.   I thought it was reasonably close to gomango in color but with pearl.  They say you need to have white primer or sealer down first.    I am wondering if it will hur the value of my car which is a gomango RT/SE if I go with a nonstock color?   Its a non matching 383 being turned into a 440.  White vinyl top, white interior car.   I was content in my own lil gomango world until this House of Colors Tangelo pearl came along.   I just dont wanna harm the value of my car.

...I have always been a fan of the Go-Mango/Vitamin C Orange (had a 4spd T/A that color once).....I was going to repaint one of my Prowlers that color till I saw the Candy Tangelo....

...it gets a tremendous amout of compliments on the color and paint job....I took it to Woodward this year and all I heard was "wow, beautiful color"......I am VERY pleased with the results...

...it won't help the value of a vintage MOPAR to paint it like this...but if you like it and are keeping the car anyway....GO FOR IT !!!

ps....the paint samples of the Tangelo and the Go Mango side by side,  made the Go Mango look like it was brown and muddy....the Tangelo is really bright.....mine has gold pearl in the clear coat which makes it very hard to photograph....

I say paint it Tangelo pearl that color is awesome looking.
I like the the idea of Mopars using modern colors, as long as it's not some rare # matching car.

Here is a Chebelle that is I think the same color you are talking about. My resto shop just finished this up last week. Talk about being a cop-magnet.  This thing glows in the sunlight. They also just finished a pickup too in the same color. You have to see it in person. Pictures don't do it justice.

My car is painted in a mulitple "House of Kolor" colors. The main color is Ultra Orange Pearl. Definitely a lot of pearl and metallics in the House of Kolor stuff. It's a long process to paint a car with their stuff. I stripped and redid my trunk because it was black. Had the etch primer/primer/white base/color/pearl/metallic. Long process but it came out nice. The other stripes are all House of Kolor stuff as well.

The Tangelo pearl is a beautiful color by the way......

One more. The stripes are all House of Kolor stuff also. Seems the previous owner was going with most of the Mopar colors of the day, only thing that isn't on the car is a FJ5 or FJ6 type color.

If you are considering HOK paint you have to ask yourself a question. Is your car going to see a lot of sun? If the answer is "yes" you may want ot rethink using HOK. The reason being every painter I've talked to says that HOK is for show cars only that will spend 98% of the time in doors away from sunlight, and every HOK painted car I have seen that the paint is more than a couple of years old and has been in the sun has needed to be repainted. The longest lasting HOK paint job I have seen was on a cobra that almost never saw the sun was about 4 years old and starting to show needing a repaint. I agree their colors are stunning, but they come with a price, and its not just the purchase price either. Just my 2 cents

I've never heard of that before..........interesting. I'll have to check into it more. I have no reason to doubt your information but if the clear coat was good over the paint wouldn't that make a huge difference ? I'd think if you put a quality clear on sun would have little effect. My car was painted in early/mid 80's. When I got it, it had terrible overspray over the entire car ( I think that actually saved the paint job ). We lightly sanded it and buffed the entire car out. My paint guy said whatever clear was used on my car is of very high quality. I sure hope I don't need a repaint on this car............if I do it'll be going back to a one solid Mopar color !!
