70 Coronet drivetrain into 70 Challenger?
« on: October 03, 2006 - 08:25:10 PM »
I can get a 70 Coronet 500 4 door for about 200 dollars with a 318 in running condition. I want to use the whole drivetrain in my hunka junka 70 Challenger, will it work? I have heard the B-body 8 3/4 is 1" narrower than that of an E. I know the driveline might have to be shortened but other than that can I bolt the K-member and everything into a Challenger chasis with no major headaches? thanks for any info.  :1zhelp:

everything Should swap , the K frame will bolt in but May have an issue with the angle of the steering box  , you can either use offset mounts to move the springs in na inch or so on each side or reweld new spring seats onto the diff

Do you have any drivetrain in the Challenger?  The Bbody(Coronet) driveshaft is longer than the Ebody(Challenger) unit. If the Challenger has a V-8 K-frame, you can use it with the Coronet 318.  Everything else will change over. As Chryco said you will need to change a few things to mount the rear into the Challenger.  I use the B rears in the E's.  It is a worthwhile project for tire clearance.

Thanks for the info guys. I have access to the original K-member but it is not what I would call nice looking. I have no suspension whatsoever under the car now. I want to get it into roller shape at least and the coronet is a cheap way to do that. I guess I will go pick up the 318 K-member while I still can. Thanks again for the information.
