Ordered a quart of Organisol from Totally Auto today! Woot! It is enamel based so I figured there would be less of a chance of a reaction with the PPG BC/CC I plan to shoot on my car. They do not however sell reducer or hardener with this paint, but instead give instructions on the appropriate mix to shoot. The person said it is illegal for them to sell the reducer & hardener for some reason? :clueless:

Anyway... I was wondering if anyone has advice on what reducer and hardener to use? The lady I ordered it from didnt seem very knowledgeable so I figured I would ask you guys. Does anyone know who actually make the paint they sell? Would PPG reducer (DT855)/ hardener be OK to use?

Lastly, what size tip would give me the best finish using a good topcoat gun?

Thanks in advance!

Always use the same reducer, etc. brand/product line, otherwise the chances are high components will be incompatible (with horrible results ...).  Maybe you can find another vendor.  Good luck with your paint!

I know...that is why I am asking - I dont know why they said they couldn't sell me the reducer, etc....

I am not going to risk ruining the new paint by guessing... if I cannot get answers
i will just send it back.

I am pretty sure the PPG mix my paint shop did for me is enamel based also.  I can look when I get home tonight to see what reducer they packaged it with.
The paint that Totally Auto sent you, does it have a brand or any other info on the label?

HemiDog,
Was the PPG paint you got from your local shop textured like the real Organisol? I thought that was some sort of "special formula" and that the PPG enamels made today would not be textured... :clueless:

I was told that Totally Auto's paint is a close match to the original organisol but not perfect...all the other more correct one's are laquer. Man - I am feeling like a  :newbie:

It is textured.  I haven't compared it to an original Organisol though.

I wish I had my file on my project with me.  I could just look at the receipt now instead of waiting till I get home.  :pullinghair:

I bought PPG Concept Organsol about 6 weeks ago. This is the single stage concept acrylic urethane with hardner. It is part number DCC 9355 and takes DT reducer and DCX61 hardner. It gets reduced 6 parts DCC 2 parts DT reducer and 1 part DCX61 hardner. It is textured and the dryer you spray it on the more texture it will have. I went this route over laquer as I wanted it to hold up to gas that might get spilled on it when filling up my 70 Cuda. I don't know what gun tip I used but it was not a big one. Hope this will help.

Thanks 40RT... I am still a newbie at this whole paint thing. I am going to wait for the Totally Auto paint and see what that is all about...if that doesnt work out I will probably just mix some at the PPG store.

I was wrong.  It was acrylic lacquer.
It has a little metal flake in it also and is very similar to argent paints.
