Too much gas
« on: November 06, 2006 - 06:07:27 AM »
This isn't for my Barracuda, but my boss's motor:

If you think you're getting too much gas in the cylinder, it's not burning it all, what would be the first thing you look at/tinker with?

He took it in this weekend to a guy who said he needs a hotter spark.  I suggested leaning his fuel/air mixture, reducing his jet size, or maybe adjusting his timing.  But I'm curious what you suggest.  Thanks.

I hate to answer a question with a questions but.....  What led you to believe that "there is too much gas"?  Are the plugs fouling, is the exhaust smelly/dark, is it not running well, etc, etc.  Is this just an idle problem or at part or full throttle? This info might help you get some better answers or at least some better suggestions as to what to check first. Some more details on the engine such as cam, intake and carb info would be good too.  There are some very knowledgeable "tuners" on this board.

I'm with you on the first thing to tinker with being the Carb. but I was amazed how much better my 340 ran with just a new set of MSD Spiralcore wires a little hotter Accell coil & some Bosh Platinum plugs.  The car always had a rich smelling, eye burning exhaust & that went away.
