Dumb Glove Box Question

On the back of the glove box lid, there are small circles.  I was showing my Cuda to a coworker, and he asked what they were, like they were meant to hold a drink or something.  I scratched my head, told him good question, and came straight to you guys

almost all american cars of that era had the drink holder circles.

just don't take the corners to fast

The thing that gets me is, the angle of the lid to the dash is so sharp, that you couldn't get anything taller than a cup of coffee on it. No Big Gulps back then.

I would agree about that in other Mopar's, but on E-Bodies, can you even put a 12 ounce can there?? I doubt it(too tall).

When the Ebodys were made weren't those short waxed paper Solo cups popular?  Maybe it fit what was "in the day".

My grandfather's Dusters all had those indents.  I wouldn't want to drive with a cup or can there, but it would hold it if parked.

 You folks are too young or the "drive in" was not around your home town but I have many a memory of going to the "Chat-n-Chew" or the "Dixieland Drive In " with my parents in Dad's 63 Dart & the glove box opened up to create a tray for the front seat passenger's drinks. Yea the e-body "cup holder" circles are just a vestige of by gone days and are pretty useless.

Deep down, that's the basis for our love of these cars IMHO.
