10 seconds to fill up an "empty" filter and get oil pressure should be enough time. 5 seconds more then shutting off, could be considered small "nadish".  How long would you let your expensive engine run without oil pressure?

I would get real nervous after about 2-3 seconds.  Usually engines (at least mine) don't fire right away so that does help get the oil moving.  I've always used the priming shaft for new engines!

I always prefill my filters and prime with a shaft too. It's just that with an external pickup, milodon type system, I used to lose prime after a winter break or changing the oil too.

Hi everyone, i haven't been on for a while. I just read the last few replys. Lol, i just learned that i have very small nads!! Hec, i sweat before i even turn the key, lol. I haven't altered my oiling system yet, i've been having too much fun enjoying the way the car runs in this cooler weather. I took it 1/8th mile bracket racing for the first time. I had never raced before, and won my bracket. The cuda and i had a blast!

That's great! Racing is FUN. I raced for over 10 years and was our tracks Trophy track champion in 1993.  I had my kids Jr. drag racing as soon as they turned 8 yrs old too.  My Daughter was even pictured in Hot Rod magazine.

I did say "Trophy" track champ right?    I was just breaking in my Plymouth Arrow with a 440 in it and just seemed to win alot.  It was so fun that I moved onto PRO class the next year, then Super-Pro with the trans brake and crossover delay box.  I got into racing deep, then got tired of sitting in the staging lanes and waiting and waiting and waiting.  Im 2002, I sold all of the racing stuff then went back to driving the Challenger long distances again.   I really missed cruising and still miss racing a little bit.
