I definately don't want the government deciding whats right for me, but I think its a little too late for that. Anyway the moral majority will take care of that. My only point is that we as smokers and non-smokers alike have to be open to the other sides argument. When I hear about people that are forced to quit their jobs and take less pay because of being transferred to a smoking environment - THAT BOTHERS THE CRAP OUT OF ME. I personally would no longer spend my money or smoke my cigarettes in that establishment. It is situations like this that we have to address and not make a political situation out of it. If you don't want the Government making the decisions then try to start doing the right thing to begin with. I think that you are going to have extremist on both sides that just don't want to hear or work with the other side and just wave their little banners. Hopefully , the majority are us that are willing to come to a reasonable and non-political solution.

Bonkers - No need to apologize - I don't stay offended.

Bonkers, you hit it right on the head.  I couldn't have said it better myself.  Now we want other people (or the government) to decide what's "practical" for us.  The pursuit of happiness is apparently an old and tired concept.  It should be changed to the pursuit of what the majority (or the government) feels is practical.  Let me list a few "unpractical" things that we should all vow to rid from our lives today:

- big screen tvs (use too much electricity)
- muscle cars (polluters that use too much of "our" gas)
- houses larger than, say 800 square feet (use too much energy and who really "needs" more than that, anyway)
- car stereos (dangerous to operate while driving)
- coffee (dangerous to drink while driving)
- alcohol (no good comes of it, anyway)
- guns and hunting (when guns are outlawed all criminals will willingly line up to turn all of their guns in)

Wait, on second thought I think I'll just enjoy the freedoms that our forefathers fought so hard for.  I guess I'm not as anxious as I thought to hand over my liberties to what others think might be best for me.  Especially with the junk or non-existent science on this subject that seems to pass for fact.

I don't see this as a single issue topic. I think that once you let government take over one aspect of your life, you'd better be prepared to hand over every aspect of your life. Although I feel strongly about the subject, I feel even stronger about the overall concept. While you may not care about smoking either way, I see a bigger picture that's being forgotten about.

REVOLUTION!   :villagers:   J/K  :grinyes:

I do think you are taking this way too seriuos though. There needs to be some form of government with laws to have a civiliced society and that means trying to do what is best for the majority. It`s not a perfect system and I`m sure all of us have had our rights infringed upon at some time but I think it`s still the best system by far!

Well, of course there does, but really, do we need half the government we have?  I doubt it.  Name the last great idea to come out of Washington (or Springfield, IL, for that matter).  It seems the main purpose of government these days is to protect us from ourselves.
