burn victim
« on: October 27, 2006 - 06:52:25 PM »
ok guys. i posted a new guy post in that area when i got here explaining about a 1972 Cuda i had to give up. Well my dad left a note in the guys mailbox that it swapped to. the called him up and they talked for a bit. The car had some kid set fire to the inside some time ago. im not sure the damage, but my dad said the current owner wasnt too optimistic about it. well my dad explained that i had wished i could have that car back since i gave it to him. i spent the last 6 years on active duty in the army and that is the story that always ended with " dude, your an idiot!" well you gotta do what you gotta do right? anyway my dad asked the guy if he would sell it back to me. the guys said he had a friend of his next door nieghbor tell him he had sold a worse off conditioned one for 10,000. UGH. thanks unnamed dude.now this guys thinks hes gonna get a billion dollars. well my dad asked him to think about selling. my dad is gonna try to butter him up some. the guy knows i was in iraq twice since it was in the local paper, said my dad. im thinking if i can get him to realize that i just want the car back and that im not ever going to sell it for profit he might cave. My dad will take pics probably this weekend with the guys permission and get the vin. without pics and the knowledge ill type in after this, what do you guys think would be a realistic offer to this guy?

1972 CUDA
original color?
was primer grey when i left it.
cant remember the amount of rust but there was some for sure.
interior fire ( extent will come with pics)
440 engine, not original numbers or even the type for car
newer style cragar rims in not so great shape been sitting for at least 5 or so years in a back yard in new england
console automatic
if i remember correct there was dent in the rear bottom valance panel.

Hard to tell without pics.  It might be savagable without a parts car or it may need a parts car.  This obviously changes the value of the car alot.  Also is it a Cuda or Barracuda?

it looked unmolested and it had the actual Cuda emblem on the rear. i dont think the owner before me just stuck it on there. but ill know better when my dad gets the VIN.

beetle, i really hope you get the car back.  it really bothers me that so many people only have these cars so that they can sell them to make money.  one afternoon, my dad and i were in the garage working on my cuda and he was like "so how much are you gonna sell it for" and i just looked at him like he was completely out of his mind.  i don't ever wanna sell my car.  it's unbelievable that your guy thinks he'll get 10k for a 72-74 with rust and fire damage.  at any rate, hurry up with those pictures.  we all wanna see.  best of luck, beetle.

thanks dude. it bothers the crap outta me too. the car might now even be in good shape but i dont even plan on buying and doing a super expensive resto right away, if it takes years then so be it. id like to most of the work myself. being an helicopter/airplane mechanic/avionics guy i think im well qualified to do a good portion of it. i want this car back so bad i get all anxious just thinking about. if i dont get it i guess ill just have to deal and wait till i can find a replacement. wont be the same though. even though this was not a very desirable car, it was one good thing what was going on with my life at that time. Im just as anxious to get pictures of the car. im waiting for my dad. Hes got to find time to get over there and ask the guy if he can. the wait is killing me.

How did it take this long for this smiley to be played!

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it.

  However, if this guy thinks he's going to get $10 G's or more for a '72 'Cuda with fire damage and rust he must be smoking something he shouldn't be!!! :bricks1:  If it was just a decent '72 with a 340 I'd say it could be worth $5,000.00 in restorable condition, but if it's originally a 318 car that's in pretty nice shape and the metal didn't get warped from the fire, then about $3,500.00 would be what I'd expect to pay for it. :2thumbs:  Hope this helps you some and I'll wait on those photos to make my final decision on a reasonable price for both you and the owner.
