Another dang newbie!
« on: October 25, 2006 - 11:05:32 PM »
Hello all you E-body (and other Mopar) crazies!

I recall looking at this site some time ago and thinking it was pretty cool and that I should join and...stuff happened and I forgot all about it.  Until the other day when someone posted the link in response to another message on the Yahoo E-body group and I "found" you guys again.  I've looked over the site again and all I can say is:  :wow: I'm sure I'll be spending some time here, asking questions and learning from all those of you who've put in the time and sweat equity to get your cars where they are now.

I have a '70 Challenger R/T, Hemi Orange.  It's originally a 383 Los Angeles car and appears to have lived all of it's life in SoCal (I'm in San Diego) - so, not too much rust.  Somewhere in it's life, a previous owner dropped a 440 in it.  It also has a 4-speed, but as you can see from the holes in the floor, it may not have started out that way.  (Speaking of which, can anyone tell me how I can be sure?  I'd check the fender tags, but they appear to have hitched a ride with the 383.)  Anyway, I bought this car in 1993 for $750 and shortly thereafter acquired wife, step-kids, baby, and then house, so the car ended up waiting for time and money that has only just started to become available in surplus quantities again.  It won't happen fast, but at least it's starting to get moving again.

Greg, Welcome to the board! I'd say your car started life with a 383-4/727, the guy that did your conversion had more talent the the guy that did the conversion on my Coronet R/T vert (I think he used a hand grenade) BTW while that tunnel needs some work the shifter hump is reproduced in sheetmetal so if you decide to keep it a manual trans (4spd or 5spd) thats a pretty easy repair...Good luck with your project, if you have any questions there are some knowledgable people here!!

Welcome to the site. Sorry to hear about the wife and kids aquisition, although buying that car for 750 was a great deal. Only kiddin about the wife and kids. If everything is right its the greatest thing that life has to offer, besides a 1970 Challenger R/T or 1970 Cuda.
