sure grip problems
« on: October 29, 2006 - 07:55:27 PM »
Hey Guys I picked up a new third member 742 case, sure grip and 3;23's $250 didn't think that was bad.. anyway I put it in the cuda. And It seems tight... way to tight It acts like a spool. when I turn a corner the wheels will chirp and the back of the car will bounce and shimmy a little. So I pulled it out and took it apart.. I have a maual and it shows there being 5 clutch plates on each side.. mine has the 5 plates but each side also has a thin shim.. could somebody have put these in to tighten it up?? do you think If I were to take the shims out it would help my problem?  thanks Brandon

possibly you just needed the additive to the oil to allow it to slip without chattering

u will need limited slip additive(friction modifier) part # 04318060ab.  yes that shim is factory, it is used against the  axel gear.
