340 stroker kit and heads
« on: November 14, 2006 - 07:39:27 PM »
Hi everyone

I have been thinking about what engine to put in my 73 Cuda.
I have the original 340 and was looking at a  stroker kit from  Straight line performance. Is this type of kit over kill if I would go with the 308 heads? I suppose I should outline what I want for this car.
I want to upgrade the power, but want to be able to drive it to long distance shows and cruises(dependable ,low maintenance). It is a four speed with 355 gears. I also want the engine bay to look as stock as possible. Rpm wise I doubt it will see high rpms often mainly looking for lots of torque.
I want to keep the original carb but may add headers as I don't have the original manifolds. Here is what I have to start with.(below)
Any links to this type of build or personal experience would be great.
I know about as much on this type of build as I do on brain surgery! :icon16:
Thanks
Dave

Build a mild 416. Headers would help, but not a "must have" with your head choice. Huge torque, mild looks.

if you are looking for moderate RPM with great torque ythe 308 heads ported should work extremely well with the combo

I think I will change directions a little, since I have a couple of 360's I'm going to go with one of them and moth ball the original engine. Has anyone used Straight line performance for parts? I may also scrap the total stock look also.

Smart move keeping the original engine stock. A 408 looks the same, costs the same. Runs the same.
