I changed my oil this week from Valvoline 20/50 to Castrol Syntech 5/30.  The Valvoline was very clean when I changed it, just pampering it I guess.  There was no doubt about it, the 440 barracuda starts easier now.  I never would've guessed that one. :ylsuper:

There is a bit of debate on how long to run std oils before a switch to synthetic. I've always said 500-100 miles. I also use CQ 15W-40 Fleet oil, because it still has the zink...for now anyway. When I have to, I'll go to a racing oil. If your machinist gets the right finish on the rings, they will seat fast. If not, it will take just as long as it used to to seat them. Many blocks I've seen honed are way too rough for moly rings, so they wont have fully seated if you change at 250 miles, or even 500 miles.  Zink wont hurt roller cams. But you dont need it there either. The Comp stuff is what I add now during cam break in, plus the deisel oil.

Actually, I think you're supposed to apply it to the upper valance and tops of the fenders to keep the paint from fading... :swaying:
