First, I'll say that the fenders on my Cuda are NOS non-stamped (gills) 71 fenders. It is a REAL Cuda. However, I cannot explain why Ed Hamburger would've changed the fenders.

My question is that I believe they are the special Hemi Fenders, where the top of the wheel opening has approx 8" bent up lip. You can tell that this was done by the factory. The part #'s are..

Is this the only difference of the "Hemi" fender?? I guess the top lip is bent in to accomodate larger front tires, but is it the only difference? Also, these fenders were non-stamped 71 fenders (barracuda??). So, if they are Hemi fenders, why were they not stamped??

My guess is that they stamped the fenders to install on the cusdas & the others had the bent lip, but did not make it to the 2nd part of the process??

I hope I did not ruin such a rare thing by having the fenders stamped for the gills.. although they look totall stock now.

I'd appreciate any insights to this.. another first for this board I must say.  ::)

the only difference I am aware of is the rolled lip , , Possibly fender sold through the parts system instead of the assembly line all had rolled lips ?? , I have no answers just ideas

I thought the AAR fenders had the "rolled lip" also??  ???

Chryco - I think you may be on to something.

4cruzin.. you made a good point. However, these fenders were stock w/ the 1971 headlight buckets. AAR's had the 70's style buckets.

I recall reading somewhere that the rolled lip fenders were for the Hemis only (off the assembly line). It's not much of a difference.. just the rolled lip

This has come up from time to time on various boards and heres what I found out.

The 15" or Hemi Fender was made on the assembly line. A special jig was made at Creative Industries just for this purpose. This like many things on an assembly line was done by an individual. Now if that person got behind or it was a Friday it sometimes did not get done. My AAR is a 1 owner 47,000 original mile car and both fenders DID NOT have the rolled lip. Also I have seen quite a few original untouched cars that aslo did not have this. One such 70 Hemi Cuda I knew of that was a 2 owner car and aslo a low mileage car also did not have the rolled lipped fenders. This was completely a hit or miss thing. AS for NOS fenders and the differences between 70 and 71 I can tell you that most NOS fenders do not fit right and some need some work before fitting right. and I have seen some without rolled lips as well. (mostly 70 ones though) Hope I shed some light on this subject!!!
Dont forget to register your AAR at the AAR Registry only at www.transamcuda.com 1981 AAR's on file. Also info on 70 thru 74 E-Bodies. Ask me about yours!!

My fender lips are rolled under and look like they were snipped every inch and then rolled. I saw some pics that another member posted and this does not seem correct.
Have you ever seen them this way. I am trying to find out before I have them repaired, My car is in the body shop now.

this was a very common practice by owners in the seventies to run bigger tires ...

Mickey Thompson M50s and a set of HiJackers (fast guys get free bunnys)were the thing....

What we all have to remember is these cars were built on a production line in Detriot, not hand built at some custom coachwork place. Just because the factory assembly manual calls for some procedure to be carried out or a special part to be used, does not mean that every car got that procedure preformed on it or that part used. There are PLENTY of examples of original cars like this.
