I drove a 74 street Duster with a built 360 , it was stupid , the 74 duster is not very light like the earlier ones & I drove this one to 12.0 in the 1/4 & 3800 ' altitude  , it would have run 11.7 easy at sea level

If you are looking for a motor that can be built cheap and easy, go with the 360.
If you are looking for a street motor with less than 500 hp and less than 6500RPM, go with a 360.
If you are looking for a high revving, high hp motor, go with a forged crank 340.
If you are looking for a fear provoking motor, go with a 340 SixPak.

I went with a 360 in my '71 because I was able to build a 400 hp motor on a budget.  Plus, as a bonus, I got 17mpg on the highway.

It is your car and your choice, good luck either way.

Can you put a 6 pack set up on a 360?  :clueless:

Yeah but its the parts and how they are tune. Do not forget most big block owners do not have 4.10 gears in back like many small block motors. I have a 318 but believe me if it was a 400 it be stronger yet. Some people just think if the tires spin from a stop its fast. No, but many big blocks can spin tires from a stop easy but they do not rev as fast-bad gearing-or turn as high rpms-too small of a cam, intake and carb. Not all have headers either. Just saying us small block guys seem to go more all out then some of the big block guys. We have more room under the hood too, and our gas milage is better so that helps. Heck, I get 11 miles to a gallon but if I had a 440 and went like I did with my 318 it might get 7 miles, maybe even less.

Check out this book by Mike Mueller.  I didn't check for '73 stuff but I looked up some #s for my '72 and it had some hard numbers.

I don't have it, I just browsed through it at a book store...  :misbehaving:

I've got this book and its got some good info in it .  However, it also has some typos.  Whoever edited it didn't do a good job.  While reading the section on the 'Cudas, I found out that some of them came with 400 +6 motors and they made a special hemi 440 six pack convertible.

I haven't read this book but I wouldn't doubt that there are typos.

The book by Paul Herd is a good book too.  I read this one a while back ago and found this book had misinformation also.  A very good read though!
