Tips Needed on hiflow water pump and Camshaft.
« on: December 01, 2006 - 07:14:09 PM »
Hello Guys,
I m looking for a hi performance water pump that will help me in cooling the car better. Would anyone know of such an item offered by any companies. Also, I m thinking about dropping a high perf. camshaft as well. What kind of a lift should I be looking for this project since it s a 440 big block. I would highly appreciate any tips I can get . Thanx.

Milodon has a high flow mechanical water pump that fits the stock housing
Lift has virtually nothing to do with selecting a cam , basically you want a s much lift as possible for  a given duration as lift is free , & I usually shoot for just over .500 lift on mild street engines , Duration controls how the cam performs & what RPM range the engine will work in with a cam , the intake carb & exhaust Has to match the cam for everything to work properly  , What do you want the engine to do ?

Thank you for your response and tips,
On that Water pump, is it one that cools off the engine more than the stock cause there s a company I found called FLOWCOOLER that guarantees better cooling including a different thremostat?
As for the cam, I d like to get more torque out of this 440 is what I m really looking for. So you think going with a stock engine and .500 lift cam what kind of duration would I need to get the right torque?
Thanx again.

As for the hi-flow water pump, make sure that it doesn't flow TOO fast.  Engine cooling is a delicate balance. If the water doesn't flow fast enough, the water absorbs the engine heat, but it takes so long to get to the radiator to cool, the engine slowly builds heat and will overheat.  If the water flows to fast, it goes through the engine too fast to absorb the heat, and the engine slowly builds heat and will overheat.  If your engine is mostly stock and driven as such, a close to stock cooling system should be fine.  Maybe a clutch fan and getting your radiator flushed and a new thermostat would work for you..............     :cooldancing:
