    Rotisserie or Not?

    I'm at a crossroads with my car right now. I could use your advice. The trunk is already cut out.(just the middle bad part) The left quarter needs mega attention. The car is already on a rolling chassis. My buddy is a Pro welder. He says, "skip the rotisserie and lift it high to do all the undercarriage work and put the money into the car instead." Frame connectors from US Car Tool are planned.  It's a very rust free 71 overall. Just the trunk, left quarter and dutchman panel need re-doing. It should clean up underneath pretty fast. But I have never done that before. So let me hear what you would do. Thanks.

    I would build it if I had a great set of plans otherwise I would buy one. Working is much easier with a rotisserie.

    I thought about doing a rot job, but then you get into replacing this, then that and then.....you have spent 30,000 bucks. I am just getting the body and paint done. I have drawn a line in the sand, if you want a rot job, then where is your line? Maybe on a hemi or 440, but to spend 30k on a nice driver.....

    I had put my Challenger on a rotisserie and would do it again on another car. It is so much easier to work on and the quality is alot better because you can see everything while your standing on your feet instead of your back. After I was done with the rotisserie, I sold it for what I had bought it for so I didn't lose any money on it and the money went back into the car.

    cars with painted undersides are pretty. Gorgeous in fact.  BUT Chrysler products were not built this way. I have always opted to leave the factory sound deadening, or replace it after the resto.

    Why??

    because I do not want to spend an entire day after driving the car to clean the underside, or god forbid, get caught in the rain, NOW you have a major mess.

    Don't get me wrong, my underside is detailed very nicely. New stainless brake lines, fuel line, Rear end and leafs painted nicely, front suspension also highly detailed, but as far as floorpans, and wheel houses, hey, just sounddeadening.,, and it looks very nice. And Easy to Clean!!! :2cents:

    I'd get a rotisserie.
    After you're done, you could sell it for probably close to what you paid for it. :thumbsup:

    I'd get a set of plans and build my own rotisserie for about $200.  Then I'd put the rest of the money into the car.  :grinyes:

    Well I bought one at SEMA on Thursday. Exact same design as Autotwirler. $1,095 OTD with Hydraulic lift, powder coated and bracket ends. I'll have it delivered in 4 weeks right to the garage where my car is at.   :bananasmi  AutoTwirler was about $150 more and you had to get it picked up at the Freight loading near your residence.

    Guess whether you went with the rotisserie or not would depend on if you think you might use it again. If this is the only car you plan to do to that extent, I'd probably side with your friend who said to put the $$$ into the car instead. If you think you'd be doing it with other cars in the future, it may be worth the investment to buy it. Just my  :2cents:

    Bought it Oct 31st and I'm still waiting. Looks like it won't arrive until sometime in January.

    I still need to buy the mig and all that stuff for it. So it isn't like I can just start right away when it shows. Still, I wish it had showed before Christmas.

    I got a free one that I need to heavily modify to fit my road runner but I would have biult or bought one.I did my `72 barracuda without one and it is not fun trying to weld,grind,sand and paint on your back.It doesn`t matter if you are doing a show quality undercarriage or just primer and undercoat the rot. will just make it so much easier.
