another whats it worth?
« on: December 14, 2006 - 04:48:47 PM »
I ran across a 70 318 Challenger today that I have seen off and on for a long time. It is a decent driver with bad paint and some rustthrough in the trunk. Some fairly odd options as base challengers go imo though. It has the front bumper guards, rim blow steering wheel, SE rear trim panel, the door edge and hood/fender edge moldings, console, air, dual mirrors, rallye wheels, etc. The guy wants 5k firm for it. It definitely would need some work but could be a nice daily driver for little green. What say you guys? I did not have a camera as my fusic is being repaired right now. Toasted interior like all desert cars but no rot on the sheetmetal except a small amount around the rear window(vinyl top car). Was rootbeer with tan interior, did not get a look under the hood though.  :feedback:

A 70 in decent driver condition for 5K??  Heck yeah!  Sounds like it will take some coin to get it up to snuff, but not bad for a 70.

I'd have to agree with MEK and Rev's resonses on this one.  It sounds like a decent car for a fair price. :2thumbs:

My  :2cents:, I'd jump on it. Look around at what you get for 5 G's these days. The steering wheel alone is about 1/5 the price of the whole car.

Let's face it,  folks are getting $5,000 buck for a rolling frame! :scared:
I'm trying to give away a '68 barracuda about 80% restored with a whole new drivetrain (built 360) for $9,500 and I had a guy run off at the mouth about a "hazed" marker light for Pete's sake. I told him to try Barrett Jackson auctions if he wanted a $60,000.00 rotiserie restoration. If you can get a decent running "E" body for 5 grand, i say go for it. Good luck!!

Sounds like you are looking at a Western Sport Special car.  Look one up. Those are the options and the color it came in.

Is there an option code for the WSS cars? I have yet to decode the tag but I will when/if the guy calls me. Am I right that you are saying all the WSS cars were Rootbeer metallic? Thanks for any info.

I was looking at the WSS T/A car and the car I am looking at does have a standard gauge cluster with woodgrain. I have only seen one other bezel that was woodgrain on a standard dash. Was it common and I have just failed to see them or is it fairly rare?

The black guage bezel is more common. The woodgrain was an option.  I would say 2:1 black to woodgrain. Barry and I were talking about the SE rear panel and what cars came with them and what car's didn't last night.  My 6 pack came with one but it is not a WSS.  I know Barry can tell you more about the WSS.  I'll email this link to him.

The WSS cars were available in all 20 colors just like any other Challenger.

The option code for the WSS is A91. It did include a lot of the options you mentioned.

No legitimate WSS T/As are known. There is one out there that started life as a real T/A, but someone added all the WSS parts to it.

Most WSS Challengers were built in LA, but nine are known so far from Hamtramck.

The woodgrain was optional on all Challengers with the std. cluster.

T/Ake care,
Barry
