Shaker Hood Air Cleaner
« on: January 02, 2007 - 09:26:53 AM »
I am going to have my Shaker Hood air Cleaner, and Rear Wing Spoiler painted. Are they both suppose to be flat black? Some people have told me my Shaker should be argent silver, but I read that they had both colors in 70.
Thanks Al

I think they started out argent for all shakers in 70 but started transitioning to black and some body colored versions toward the end of 70 or in 71.

The correct color for your particular car may end up depending on the month your Cuda was built and not just the year.

I'm pretty sure earlier months were all argent.

I'm sure someone more knowledgable than I will chime in with the definitive answer soon. :-)

certain colors could be had in body color, but not all as I understand.  Then there was the original silver/grey and black.  If it is not all original I would do what I liked the best.

I got the Ingredient for the Argent paint for my shaker.Should a auto body shop be able to make up the paint without any problem? Has anyone here had experience with an auto body shop mixing the paint.

mY UNDERSTANDING WAS that 1970 had argent plus body colors (3 maybe). Then, 1971 was all flat black for all. However, there were some left over argent bubbles which were used for early 71 prioduction cars, but not many. There were also none painted argent or body color specifically for 1971.

I believe the early model cars had the shaker painted body color, then went to Argent.  Don't know about any '70s being black, although it could look real nice depending on your body color.  Wings were flat black.  You can buy the Argent, but it's expensive.  Didn't have much luck when my body shop tried to mix up "Argent" on their own ~

I dropped the shaker and the rear wing spoiler off at the auto body shop.I gave him the ingredients for the argent paint. He's not sure how it will mix,so I just may have it painted flat black like the rear spoiler.I found this article in a book about the color, which says it did have black shakers.Thank you all for your input

I have several books and they all say something a bit different, so go with what makes you feel good!
