Couldnt pass on the '72 Challenger as it was a bonifide one owner right here in Tallahassee. No mods except for duals and only 80k miles! Its triple green with a/318 and I will sell it as is if someone is interested. Its an A/C car w/ Road Wheels and build sheet.

1: I am missing the stainless trim on the passenger side quarter (very end). There is no trim on the deck lid and no obvious holes for any. It appears that there should be. If so, is Ebay the best place to find them? THis is a pretty rough driver, so I do not need the perfect matching year or show quality.

2: Gas tank strap rear mount: yes, my trunk floor was bad, so I am installing 2 new halves. Where does the J bolt on the end of the tank strap mount and how would you suggest it be installed. I was told it bolts through an L bracket on the bottom of the floor, but that means welding it on upside down, right? I guess it could be bolted?

3:  I have some rot/rust on the rear wheel wells and the tail panel that I dont think the new trunk floor will cover. What do the experts suggest here?

I will anxiously await any and all suggestions!

for the first question you probably could find a set on ebay. If you did want new ones they are available at www.metropartscompany.com . Not sure on the second question, and the 3rd question would be better answered if there were pictures for us to assess the damage.

there is a Hanger on the frame the J bolt hooks into, the threads point down & go through the tank straps  & use a lock nut

Thanks for the parts suggestion. I need someone to verify that the deck lid does in fact supposed to have the stainless trim to match the pieces on each end of the quarter. Again, I am looking and they dont need to be perfect or even the correct year. I under stand they are all very similar.

My trunk floor was trash, and its now all gone. The crossmember at the very rear is intact, and there are a couple of holes in it that face up and down. The J bolts for the strap have a J on the end that needs to attach to the frame or bracket and the threaded end will go on the end of the strap itself. SOmeone told me there are brackets welded on the botom of the trunk floor that have a hole for these J hooks, but it does not appear they are on the replacemet floors. The crossmember seems like a logical place, but the holes done seem to be facing the right direction?

You need the gas tank supports, they weld to the bottom of the trunk floor and then the tank straps attach to them. They are being reproduced, let me grab a photo...

:iagree: You need to weld those brackets to the bottom of the trunk floor.Wheel wells are available but for small rust holes you can just patch them with sheet metal but if you are looking at resale make sure you do a quality job.Not sure about the trim, was the deck lid chaged?

To help you with #1 If your deck has no mounting holes,, possibly it has been replaced and never had the trim installed,, Heres pics of the holes and locations off of mine. All the holes on the lid are in the center of the lip and are 1/4" in dia.  From left to right they are located at the following intervals,,, 1/2", 9-1/4", 18-1/4", 26-3/4", 28-3/4", 451/4" and 54"  also here is a pic of the clips that held mine in.  the oval spring type was on the qtr trim and the nylon "H" shaped were on the lid. They are a compression type that expand when the center pin is pushed in.  Last but not least a ? for me,, would anyone try and repair the rusted area in the corner?  or replace the entire lid.
Thanks, Doug
