Spark Plug Wires
« on: January 10, 2007 - 03:18:59 PM »
Hi all

New member -- with a question.   I am refurbishing my '74 Challenger (360 4bl) and have received confusing information about the spark plug wires.      I've looked in several restoration books (Genat, Schild, etc.) but unfortunately, they always focus more on the earlier challengers for these kind of details.   Question:   Were they originally orange or black?

Thanks!

Welcome aboard here!!

For a first question, you did well with a stumper.  :grinyes: I believe they were orange from the factory. Let someone else verify this for you though.

There is a thread asking the same question about the '73 & all with opinions say orange. Mopar performance has them part # P4529797  you can order these from your local dealership or many other suppliers. I had a poor experience with a set I ordered thru Summitt Racing, the two shortest wires were too short so they traded out for some MSD's that are not orange but someday I want orange wires.

I don't know off hand what color they were but this is a pic from the '73 Barracuda/Duster/Valiant factory brochure.

This is of a  '73 318 engine but do you think they would be different for a '74 360?  I dunno..  :dunno:

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

from the factory, the wires were black. The orange wires mopar sells now under the misleading 'stock' label, are not correct.
