bought some parts today,why would someone do this?

I got a 143 tooth 11" flywheel,383 balancer,pully,steel crank,holley card,carter carb,complete 346 heads,69 383 intake and an 11" cast bell someone cut out below the hole for 75 bucks(I dont really need any of it but will keep a spare flywheel and the intake,probably sell or store the rest,why would someone do that to this bell????????

That can't help the integrity of the bellhousing.   :screwy:   Maybe they had chassis clearance problems and it was easier to shoot the tranny more straight up and in instead of coming in from the rear?   :clueless:   :dunno:

Can't see it helping much on getting the tranny in.  Might save an inch or so but the input shaft still has to goe thru the throwout bearing, pressure plate & disk which will still be at the rear.  My guess is that someone tried to force an OD tranny in without resizing the bearing retainer and cracked the housing.  Could be they cut it to clean it up.

Maybe not  :dunno:
