You ever notice that all the good deals are always out of reach
« on: January 14, 2007 - 05:05:04 AM »
Seems anytime I find things I really want for my cars, and shipping is involved, It just raises the price so high it's not worth getting it for the price.

Even repop quarters cost more to ship then the price. Or rust free doors. The deals are out there, just unobtainable in most cases.

Another example. Clown is wanting a 70/71 shell for a project. Where he lives, even a 1000 buck shell price goes up on the shipping. So sometimes I find it's better to save and buy the expensive deals local just to save on shipping and parts needed for the project.

You are right on with that,I have had to pass on a couple of shells now because the shipping was just more than I could afford.I would buy one closer but I can't seem to find one.And most prices are going up----How come my wages aren't?

I agree on our wages.  It's hard to play and pay for everything these days.

Wow I had to work today just north of Baton Rouge la, then loaded out and drove over to see my cars I got stashed in the bayous out there. I have 3 70 challengers, 4 72,73,74 rallye challengers and 3 72 cudas still. Amongst other stuff like 2 little reds, 1 68 sport sat, 65 coronet post top, 64 new yorker, 70 swb dodge p-up, and some other misc cars left. Katrina has taken a toll on the bodies. So they are mostly parts cars now. I didn't have time yet to unload some of the stuff I got from there today, since I just got home. 500 miles....I'm tired.  It was like 74 degress there, so mosquitos were eating me up and snake sheaded skins in all the cars.

A small list of things I brought home in my 2006 durango rental...
black 72 console (auto)
air cleaner
front and rear chrome off the 70 challenger
chrome passenger 72 challenger mirror
4 speed rubber boot for the bell housing
3 speed wiper motor
Some 69 -n- 70 valve covers for a bb
30 ft of conveyer belt for around the shop doors to stop the wind from seeping through

I can't remember the rest right now after working till 1pm then going down by new orleans for 3 hours pulling parts and driving all the way home. 500 miles. But CRS is kicking in and I know there's more out there, Just can't remember.

I had a 67,68,69,70,and 71 hp 440's setting there just waiting to be built again and run. I notice 3 of the engines had the thin counter weight on the balancers, so they are the boring heavy rod hp engines.
I got a part of an extremely special vin I have to check with Barry first, before I say what's setting in the swamp too. :roflsmiley: If I don't forget.

Sure wished I'd of rented that hemi quad cab pick up now. And had more time to pull parts. I wanted some antennas, fm radios, frnt and rear bumper brackets, and a bunch of other useable stuff. I must have 20 or more 323 sure grips, and other size chunks setting around.. This all is from my 30 yr collection I share with a friend there. I got more stuff in Mississippi I need to see if any trees fell on them. 2 or 3 bs cars and 1 maybe 2 js jh cars. a 30x50 garage full of doors, hoods, fenders trans, and engines. No room left in there. And an 18 wheeler trailer 3 ft deep in head, alts, intakes, exhausts, carbs, distr, trim rings, consoles...yadda yadda.

I guess you know why I was called moparal for all these years.
A close friend of mine wrecked his car at the track a few months back and got killed, and nobody called me. I drove by his place and things were just setting up. And the black top road was completely cover up by dual tire tracks for a half mile on both sides from testing his cars. I will miss him.

I get a wild hair this summer, I may bring some stuff to my house here and list it on the site forsale for everybody. But remember, my cars went through the hurricane, so they are iffy on some of the stuff, but I still got a lot of sheet metal to deal with. I must have 50 radiators, but it was dark and I had no flashlight to read numbers.

I was in such a hurry, I didn't take pics. I was walking fast back and forth to the durango 7 acres away. Yeah I'm tired.

My wife thought I was crazy for turning on the computor tonight...I am waiting on the hot water heater anyways I told her :roflsmiley:

Sounds like you have a pretty sizeable collection there... post some pics if you get the chance. Oh, and be sure to fill us in on this mysterious VIN...

As for prices, don't start. The market currently is crazy.

Amen on the shipping costs. I purchased a grill (mostly plastic & no weight to it at all, just long & bulky) for my '94 Chevy S-10 (I know, it's a bowtie). There wasn't anything available in the local junk yards. It figures as most get smashed in the front. The shipping was about 25 bucks more than the actual cost of the grill!! Who'd figure??? :woo:
On another note I shipped a Challenger from Auburn CA to Cheaspeake VA (about 3000 miles) for $925 bucks. That wasn't a bad deal as I couldn't have bought an airline ticket and drove it back that cheap!! And it got here in one piece without damage!!  :wow:

Oh & Moparal, man have you got a collection. I only know one person that I think has you beat and that is the president of our local Mopar club, the Tidewater Mopar Club in Virginia. He (like you) has cars spread out all over the state!! His wife threatens divorce every time he looks to buy another Mopar! LOL

Back in the day, it was very easy to have more mopars then places to keep them :2thumbs: Used mopars averaged between 50 and 1000 bucks depending on what you craved and could afford.

I remember those days ::) But i was always happy being able to drive my 73 Rallye everywhere and never gave much thought to purchasing more Mopars or parts :bricks1: Never been real driven where making money is concerned either which is why my best friend i grew up with in Brooklyn still rags me for "operating at a deficit", lol :money: :dunno:
