is there anybody out there who followed this carcraft recipe?, how did it turn out?, does it really produce 400hp?? or how much power did you get it to produce?

I ask because I'm in the middle of building the 318 for my 74 challenger following this recipe but i could not get the block to be decked.. so I will not get the compression they say in the article.

Thanks

I used this build as "inspiration" for the engine I'm putting together.  I have a complete 95 magnum engine with only 20K on it, from a dodge ram.  I kept the roller valve train and rotating assembly stock, added an air gap, eddie 650 carb (also have a 550 in the wings),  full LA style front end, electric fuel pump, msd 6AL ignition system, and a refreshed 904 behind it.  I doubt it will hit even 300HP without porting, boring and decking, but I suspect some good gains over the stock setup. My engine looks almost exactly like the one pictured above, but without the demon.  Personally, I like the challenge of trying to get the most out of the smallest motor.  Theres a vette on the B-J auction right now that has a naturally aspirated 327, making an estimated 375 HP.  That's gonna be a fun ride.

I havent followed it, but it's not a big deal really. Why cant you have the block decked?  A big part of the power levels they got was because of that zero deck. Using the same KB pistons, you may be down as much as a full point depending how "tall" your block is to start with. By leaving them down in the hole, you lose static compression ratio, dynamic compresstion ratio, and most important you lose the quench effect with those Magnum heads. It's fairly important IMO.

If you are interested in having a hi-output 318 you may want to send a message to GoodysGotACUDA.
