727 Big Block Trans??

Not a question about my 73 cuda this time, but for my future dakota drag truck project. I just picked up a "running" 400 low deck with a trans behind it from what i was told a 75 dodge van for 150 bones. Were the transmissions out of a big block van different from the normal car 727 torqueflites? Also I noticed that there was a 1" hole on the top of the trans....never really remembered seeing this on any other 727 I've seen. Sorry dont have pics or part numbers since its sitting over at my brother in laws place to i close on the new house. Just trying to get an idea of what the transmission is.

The 727 transmission is 34.39 inches long from front to back.  There are shorter ones for truck use as well as 4WD versions with an adaptor for the transfer case instead of a tailshaft.
You should have the "normal" version but all you have to do to find out is measure it

My 74 Dodge van had the full length 727, same as the passenger cars. Matter of fact, the one I have in my Cuda came out of that van!

Awsome!!! Thanks guys. Now I just gotta find a dirt cheap gen1 or gen2 dakota to throw that in. I got an 8-3/4 ebody rear that should be no problem to fit in. Doing the drag truck cause i dont wanna beat the living snot out of the cuda....got way too much time in it and since its num matching couldnt bare to build an insane-o motor. Anybody know of a reg cab short bed thats 1996 or older for sale cheap around pittsburgh???

Maybe try calling Stoystown Auto wreckers, (814) 893-5418......Maybe you can pick something up there reasonable that will suit your needs
