I suspect a 440 built about the same as my 392 would be quite a bit stronger running. I had to modify a set of shorty headers to fit the car, which compromises the exhaust breathing, and the 392 is about 150 lbs. heavier than a 440. The 392 is a long stroke motor (3.91") and is basically a low RPM torque motor. The bottom end is amazing, but the redline is between 5500 and 6000 RPM. These motors were reved higher in fuel cars back in the day, but for a street engine on pump gas that's about it.
