fiber glass parts -pontiac t/a shaker on mopar
« on: August 13, 2003 - 03:15:10 AM »
http://www.usbody.com

has anyone here used there parts,  I was looking at the t/a hood for my 73  and maybe the t/a trunk lid. seams that the carb on my air gap wont fit under the hood, even without an air cleaner.   As I can't afford a mopar shaker, the 6 pack hood look dumb on challengers is there any other hope.

My thoughts were to put a brand x shaker on it Fords are rare, but a Pontiac T/A shaker can be purchased on ebay for under 100 bucks all day long.

Has anyone heard of a challenger with a t/a pontiac shaker on it?

Even better put one on a slant 6 !

pontiac shaker on ebay bid at 76 bucks

1973Challenger360:

Why don't you try AAR Quality Fiberglass.  I've purchased from them and everything was satisfactory.  I saw a 1971 Challenger at Englishtown, NJ with one of the AAR Quality Fiberglass shaker hood set-ups.  It was not painted yet, but quality looked good (you have to open up the slots for the vent openings at the base of the windshield).

I think they also sell the shaker bubble, baseplate, and outer adapter ring - basically everything you would neet to "shaker-ize" your car.  It mounts to the stock hood hinges.  It's more expensive than your Trans Am hood bubble, but this way, people won't laugh at you for having the correct hood.  I don't see a Challenger shaker hood listed on their web page, but I'm 99.9% sure I saw it at 2002's Englishtown event.  Here's their web link:

Good Luck,

I will probably be buying a 500 dollor hood before a few thousand.    how difficult is it to cut the vents.   what would you use to do this.

has anyone ever used the aar fiber glass shaker hood how does the hood look (the bubble) what other parts does this need to work (or not)  To bolt this on ?

Can this hood+bubble be mounted to a 4bbl with out anydoors or working hardware.... for price reasons...

1973challenger360:

You could secure the scoop to the underside of the hood; when you raise the hood, the hood & scoop are now joined together.  Still looks like a full shaker set up with the hood down, but you wont need to buy the baseplate, adapter ring, etc.

The hood vents have moulded impressions where the slats are, but are not completely cut through.  You could use an air powered cut-off wheel and make your initial thin cuts, then open the slats up with a hand file and/or sandpaper.

Thats not a bad Idead as someday I could put all the stuff on It to work properly.   I think I mght try to attach it to the motor first but if I decide to get the hood that might work to.  Im looking more at the T/A hood.

has anyone used a us body t/a hood, I did not see one on aar's sit for sale.  Or anyone else make them   ???

Looking for a bolt on for under $500

Definitley go with the t/a six pak hood
The mopar chassis book sez that hood is
the most effective mother mopar ever made
Due to boundary air limitations the shaker
hood was never as good for getting that
"to use the pontiac expression" RAM AIR
effect. I wish they came on 'cudas
