72 Challenger 4 spd console
« on: September 11, 2003 - 09:30:32 AM »
Hello all, brand new to the board and a proud 72 Challenger Ralley owner.
I'm currently in the middle of a fairly extensive restoration, mostly electrical and mechanical. I bought the car after it was abandon at a body shop, so body and paint are pretty good.
Whoever originally owned the car was obviously trying to restore it.

Anyway, one thing that looks wrong to me is the center console. It just doesn't look like it fits properly. Does anyone have any pics they could share of the console for a 4 spd challenger from the drivers side? I have a hunch the console I have is from a Roadrunner. Is there any way to tell from the part numbers?

Any help is appreicated and if anyone has one for sale, shoot me an email please. Maybe I'll have some luck at Fall Carlisle in a few weeks.

Nice find and welcome to the board 383magnum383!  It looks like all the hard work is already done.  I have a 70 RT/SE automatic, so I don't have pics for you, but someone here will.  Can you show us a pic of your console?

Here is a closeup of the area that doesn't seem right. The contoured cutout doesn't seem to fit the hump correctly. Any thoughts?

Thanks Chryco Psycho, that is very good to here. I haven't seen any of these cars up close since the late 70's when I was a teenager. lol
That will save me $300-$400.
I know the shifter boot and trim ring was not right and I have the correct one ordered, maybe that was the only problem.

 :D Hello 383magnum383,
Welcome to the group. That console you have is indeed correct for a 71-74 E-Body. Being a 4 speed, it is also expensive, so count yourself lucky there. One less part to spend money on. Good luck with everything. We're here to help.

383magnum383,

Nice find !   The console is correct for E-bodies.  I have a pict on page 2 of a cuda interior where the shifter boot is peeking out through the cutout in the console.  Take a look:

Hope this helps you see what's goin on with it.
