Firebird Intl Raceway Warmups
« on: January 25, 2007 - 10:52:44 PM »
Anybody going to the Firebird warmups this weekend??  Looks like my buddy with the Front Engine Fuel Dragster will be out there and I'm gonna hang around and help.  (or get in the way ect)

I get to mix the fuel, get the food and hand out tools en stuff.

Quickest Pontiac in the world  :cooldancing:  Too bad the other guys will have HEMIs  :sadwavey:

We are looking for a 6:50 or maybe a bit quicker     :dunno:

I will bring the digicam...

A couple of pics.  We had some parts breakage so we never made a full run...  Better luck next weekend!!

Lots of fun though  :cooldancing:

Is there more than one Firebird? The one I know of is in Idaho, but I see your are from AZ.  :dunno:

Right.
This is the Firebird Intl Raceway on the Gila Indian Reservation near Phoenix AZ. When Charlie Allen closed  Orange County International Raceway in 1983 he moved the whole operation to the Phoenix area with a 99 year lease on the edge of the reservation so there is no chance of housing developments closing it down like in California.
When it first opened the entrance tickets still said OCIR on them

It's a world class racing facility that also has a motorcycle track, Drag boat Lake, several road racing tracks and the world famous Bob Bondurant racing school.

Every year the NHRA has the "warmups" where the big teams come to do their testing because of the warm weather. Over 50 professional NHRA teams came this weekend.
Several Top Fuel teams made sub 4:50 ETs at over 325 mph.....
